A new version of the file cleaning software CCleaner for Windows, version 5.50, features new options to control program updates. The year 2018 has not been a very pleasant one for Piriform, maker of CCleaner, and Avast, Piriform’s parent company. The integration of Telemetry collection, first without clear options to disable it and turned on by default, and forced automatic updates to a new version of CCleaner, were two of the major blunders in that year. CCleaner v5.50.6911 includes a new Updates menu under options in the program interface. It gives users control over the updating behavior of the program according to the release notes.

Added new menu: ‘Options’ > ‘Updates’
Moved ‘Inform me of updates to CCleaner’ setting to the ‘Updates’ menu
Replaced ‘Enable silent background updates’ setting with separate settings for automatic product updates and product update notifications
Added new settings to control important updates and their notifications
Automatic product updates are now enabled for anyone upgrading to CCleaner Professional (these can be disabled in the ‘Updates’ menu).

Installation Instructions:

Install Ccleaner Setup [ccsetup550_pro.exe].The program will attempt to phone home when registered so you must either add the following line to your hosts file or block the connection with a firewall of your choice. You can block the app in your C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file: 127.0.0.1 license.piriform.com

If you register any program with a Bundle serial, it will create a registry entry that will register any of the other programs the next time you run them.
